This is my go-to chinese restaurant! The food is great. The prices are good. The decor is a bit more upscale then a regular chinese restaurant. I have had the Moo Shu chicken, Hong Shui Chicken, Szechuan Style Chicken Lo Mein, sweet and sour chicken and almond boneless chicken. They are all great. And they have the best green tea ice cream included with the meal. I have recommended it to my friends and family and now it is their go-to chinese restaurant. Whether it be carry out or dine in, try this one.

Five stars on the food, but 1 STAR ON POOR MANAGEMENT. Food is great, but the managers, Tim and Josie, charge for everything. There is a $5 minimum for each person and even if you spend the $5 per person, they charge you $1 or $2 for an extra plate if you want to taste another person's selection beside your own; bring your own plate next time. Also a cup of BROTH TO ADD TO YOUR SOUP IS $3; you can buy another soup with vegetables instead of getting extra broth.

The large Chinese vegetable soup for $5 is the best I have ever had. Very clean and modern look.

The food is very mediocre, but there isn't a good Chinese place with in 10 miles of here. People want to complain and say that China Moon is better, it's practically the same. IMO Gim LIng is a little better/less greasy, with a little bit more of their stuff actually prepped and cooked in house. For those that like China Moon, I'm sorry, but the gravy in Almond Boneless chicken isn't supposed to be neon yellow... Loaded with MSG. For my money this is the best place in the area, but I will admit, that's not saying much.

We went here for my coworkers birthday, carryout. I had orange chicken. Good flavor no complaints. Not expensive but not cheap. Somewhere in the middle. I would go back.

This was our first time, but it sure wheel not be our last! As you might know I have celiacs disease and am wary about new places. When asked about the menu they were knowable and helpful. I was given options to make almost any dish gluten free as some that were already gluten free. The classics Chinese dishes are up dated and delicious. My husband like spicey and very rarely gets things hot enough. He was pleased with the spice and the balance of flavor.

Terrible Terrible Terrible! The most rude people I have ever met. I don't know if it's the language barrier or no compassion for human beings. The food is extremely overpriced but I will never visit them again based on service alone.

Firstly, before I wrote this review, I looked at some of the other review. I noticed that reviews from a few years ago were sparkling and the more recent ones are pretty bad. This matches perfectly to my boyfriend's experience; we went here because he remembered they were great before. Definitely not anymore! When we got there, no one was at the counter, and there were about 10 people waiting for to go orders. Someone finally showed up and took care of some of the to go people. My boyfriend finally spoke up and said we just wanted a table. 25 minutes in we were seated. There is no children's menu--the place is not child friendly. The guy brought us waters, and one for our child. I asked for a diet coke which he forgot about till nearly the end of the dinner. We asked for the straw twice more. Finally the lady dealing with the to go orders brought one. They also didn't bring a plate or a fork for our daughter--we had to find the lady at the front to bring us table wear. We were not checked on at all by our waiter. The food was decent. I would give that about 3 stars. I got the Szechwan chicken, and he got the General Tso's chicken. Our food arrived an hour and 20 minutes past our arrival time. While our waiter did not check on us even once, he did manage to get us out as soon as he thought we were done. He looked at my boyfriend like he was nuts when we asked for the leftovers to go. He was very arrogant on the whole, and made us feel far from welcome. This place has gone downhill, and they really need to get their customer service together. We will not return.

I'll start off with, I've been looking for a new Chinese place to replace my old place who changed owners and changed the food. They food was great, the coffee was not bad at all. I can say it will be my new place for Chinese food. They down side was the cup I got wasn't clean, asked for a new one and they gave me a clean one. I was happy about that. They didn't seem to come to our table often to check on us, which is a big downer for me.

Very unhappy with the service and pricing. For the cost u get very little portions of food. Would not recommend anyone this place. I will not come here again.

Food is not bad probably the best in the area, which is not saying much. They kinda piss me off though, kept me waiting even though my food was ready because they were confused about my name. Wes, I know its complicated. The thing that really gets me is all I wanted was orange chicken and 2 eggrolls. Well you have to order a full order of egg rolls, whatever. Fine. So I want hot mustard with my eggrolls. Well that costs money too. You dont see burger joints charging for ketchup do you? So for a little cup of mustard that my egg roll wont even fit in they charged me a dollar. Not even a teaspoon! So for Orange chicken and a couple eggrolls it was 17 bucks. Bullshit. I wish there was a panda express here. Even it is better than this place. I don't think I will be going back. Ps the duck sauce has the consistency of water and the fried food has awful batter. It sloughs right off so you get a bland piece of meat and a soggy sauce saturated piece of batter in every bite.

I really loved this place when I first tried it; they still make the best mu shu pork I've had anywhere, and some of their other dishes are delicious, but.. methinks that they are heavy-handed with the MSG or some kind of sodium, because whenever I eat here, I pay dearly for it the next day by blowing up like a bloated balloon. Not worth it.

I don't know where all the poor reviews are coming from?? They are definitely not rude or over priced and by far the best tasting, cleanest, and most consistent Chinese restaurant in the area.

Ya know... I live near Gim Ling, and we hit them up at least once a month. I'm not going to get into details of meals, but let me tell you this. Yes, they aren't in business to be your best friend. Most Chinese restaurants can come off a little rude, and I think that's just the clash of language & backgrounds. Get over it, people. You're here for food, not to find your new BFF. I've never had anything bad here. The egg drop soup, as some have mentioned, is some of the best I've had. I like their chicken egg foo young, and heck, pretty much everything we've tried is good. (Compared to Mayflower, who's egg foo young had cubes of chicken that I SWORE were cut up tire bits. Terrible.) It's a little bit more pricey (and I mean a -little-) than other places, but for the quality difference, I think it's worth it.

Friendly staff and the best Chinese food around. You can taste and even see the freshness, unlike many Other Chinese restaurants in the area. Will definitely go back. I recommend the curry.

Every time I've been here, it's been great. Service is good. The general tso's chicken is my favorite. The presentation on it is beautiful and fits the taste. Their mild spice is a bit more of a medium spice, so be careful with that. Pricing is higher than a standard Chinese restaurant, but the ambience and food are worth it.

The first time is the last time. *one large table of 6 *one table with 2 adults and 3 kids *our table for 2 Two wait staff and another to answer phone. We waited 15 minutes to order and was told no egg drop soup however at every table egg drop was served including people who came in after us. Two other tables came in after we placed our dinner order and some how EVERY CARRY OUT order and the other tables were served before us. Our waiter had the big group and us and sadly served us room temp wonton soup and luke warm egg rolls. As we saw entrees come out they were large and hardy and then ours came out. To say we were disappointed would be a gross understatement. The $26 dinner for two was a joke. The steak kow had 5 pieces of meat. The whole dish could fit in an soup CUP. The butterfly shrimp was room temp. Just lukewarm deepfried shrimp on a plate. On the positive side. ..the tea was hot and the ice cream was cold. If I had cell service I would have ordered differently based on Yelp. Oh well. Every experience can't be outstanding. Did I forget to mention that this whole experience took TWO hours, just not acceptable.

AMAZING FOOD, terrible workers and "policies"!!! I've been going here since before I can remember with my family. It was probably my first experience with Chinese! Moving back to the area I was hoping this place would become my go-to for Chinese. I was WRONG. The first strike against them: I came with my significant other and was told we could not split food because we HAD to order a minimum per person (I believe it was $5?). What? We were spending at least $30 between the tea, soups, egg rolls, entree and the appetizer, but were still told we couldn't do it that way. After a long process with the waiter, we finally figured out what her and I could order to meet the "minimum" per person; nevermind the WHOLE price of the bill split in half would of met the min! My GF ended up ordering more egg rolls and a soup she didn't really want so she could meet the requirement. The most confusing part here is... What if I wanted to eat dinner and the person accompanying me just wanted to meet up? Would they have to order something just to sit with me in the booth? So. I still don't understand what the problem was, considering we were going to be spending a good amount of money there. THE FUNNIEST PART is that my mother comes in ALL THE TIME with her husband. They split Sweet & Sour and order extra rolls and a extra soup and NEVER HAVE A PROBLEM, though I KNOW they don't meet the strange "individual requirement" they bestowed on me and my GF. Is it because I'm 29, but have the face of a 18 year old? I really don't know, but it's degrading. If that wasn't enough, I ordered from here from work one day on a Saturday for a takeout. I ordered a lunch special (I guess? I didn't care what it was, I wanted Almond Boneless after work). I said I would be there AFTER 3pm--probably around 3:30pm. I got there at 3:15pm, earlier than I anticipated, and was met with a blank stare when I asked for my order. At first she tried to tell me I didn't have an order, but I reminded her what it contained and was told, "Oh, we put that back. It was a lunch special. No lunch special past 3pm." Despite telling them WHEN I WOULD BE THERE, they did not inform me of this. Then, to make it worse, they didn't even bother to remake my food (at the normal price, I didn't honestly care), the hostess/waitress just stared at me with no resolution to offer. I walked out and haven't been back since. Maybe you should work on your manners?

Another case of a great place going to hell in a hand-basket. What is with this place and the Great Almond Boneless Chicken Gravy Embargo? I read another person's review about this and just have to say, I'm floored by it all... we had the same experience (more on that later). Went her with my wife and my mother last weekend. This is usually, hands-down, the best place to go for Chinese food anywhere - but they were a little busy last Friday night and I guess it was enough to throw everything to hell. Service was incredibly slow - not just inconveniently slow - excruciatingly "get me the hell out of here before my legs fall asleep" slow. Points for giving us heads-up when we first sat down that food was slow coming out of the kitchen, but really? I could of caught my own chicken and cooked it by the time we got our food. Asked 4 times for my mother's coffee... come on, service people. Four presidential terms later, food finally came. We all agreed, it was NOT as good as it used to be. Seemed the chicken was pressed down more and more chewy. We've been here a half-dozen times before - never has the meat been so flat and chewy. Bummer. Then came the Almond Boneless Chicken Gravy Embargo. We ALWAYS ask for (and gladly pay for) extra gravy on the side because it's usually so good and they don't give you enough on the plate. Food arrived - no gravy on the side. No shit, we asked the waitress six times for this over the course of the 45-minutes we sat there and slowly ate our food waiting for it to come. Finally, she came out and said the cook didn't have time and won't make it. WHAT?? I am PAYING FOR IT. I have REQUESTED IT. What do you mean HE WON'T MAKE IT?? I NEVER heard of such a thing. She sort of laughed it off and walked away. We were pissed - can you tell? Restaurants are a service business... where's the service in that? So now what, I have to ORDER an extra person's plate of food to guarantee I get the extra gravy? We'll give this place one more try - but that's it. If service blows and food isn't much better and they hold back on ANYTHING... they will be dead to us. How much tip can you guess I left these guys?

I will never visit this place again. I ordered a carry out and had a few questions about what I was ordering. The guy was so rude I wanted to hang up. The lady was also rude when I picked the order up. The food was bland. Nothing special! Horrible way to treat your customers.

  • Alyson H.

My family has only ever ordered carry out from here, but every time I walk in to get it I wish we would decide to eat inside. Sometimes that's hard with a toddler! We have never had an issue with anything we have ordered from here. The only reason for 4 not 5 stars is due to price. It's fairly expensive for Chinese food, but it's delicious and we always have left overs.

Without a doubt, my favorite Chinese restaurant. I know a lot of people prefer PF Changs as a more upscale Chinese experience, but not me. Gim Ling gives you the same upscale and modern feel at a cheaper cost. Located in a busy shopping strip, Gim Ling definitely gives you a good vibe upon entering. The place itself is quite cozy, playing classical music in addition to having a nice atmosphere. This isn't your typical Chinese restaurant. Prices are a *tad* bit more than your typical Chinese restaurant. However, it is worth it. Most everything is around $9 - $12, and that's not even including the complete meal, which is a few dollars more and includes an egg roll, roll, soup, rice, and dessert. Don't let the higher price scare you aware --- the food here is delicious! Sesame chicken is my go-to meal at any Chinese restaurant. However, Gim Ling actually asks how spicy you want it, rather than saying it's spicy when it's really not (I'm looking at you, Leongs) I usually get mine "medium" and I like that it adds a bit of a kick to my meal. Not enough to make your eyes water but enough to make you happy you didn't ask for anything super spicy. The vegetables provided are onions, peas, and carrots and they actually taste fresh! Egg rolls are made here with veggies for anyone that has allergies to shrimp or any other seafood. The ice cream here is surprisingly divine as well. If you're in the St. Clair Shores area, I highly recommend dining here at least once! They're closed on Mondays, however, but have great hours otherwise. Service is great and food is even better. Don't let the negative reviews scare you away. Gim Ling is a keeper.

This place is unbelievable. I spent $50.00 during a recent dine in experience and Gim Ling stopped giving free refills on pop and iced tea. This act alone has caused me to Never patronize their establishment. Gim Ling if you bother to read these I highly suggest you give your customers free refills.

  • Chadd H.

This place is just an upscale Chinese restaurant, I don't usually go to them for flair or looks, but if you wanted a nice evening out, I guess this could suffice. The big strike for me (and thus the two stars) is the no refills on pop. In this day and age I find it inexcusable, and I will never visit a place with rules like this. The food otherwise was decent, the comparison to China Moon seems accurate. I wasn't blown away (still looking for a GOOD Chinese joint here in SCS) but it was good enough. Place was clean and the decor was nice. Edit: I forgot the weird part about their menu saying a minimum of $5 per person. That combined with the no refills on pop makes me think they're just some shady Chinese joint.

This is by far the best Chinese food that I have ever had. This place is so good that I now dislike going anywhere else. Highly recommend the sesame chicken as well as general tso. Great service and the cleanest restaurant I have ever been in.

  • Marc J.

This place is amazing. Great Chinese Food, Clean place to eat with a robust menu. I started with the sweet and sour chicken, next i tried the sesame chicken. Both were white meat chicken and the fried rice was good. It is so much better than PF changs and what fast and friendly service. I am an avid chinese food eater and this place will be my new go to in the area. If you looking for the next choice in chinese food. Try GIM LINGS for things!

The waitress harassed me about leaving a tip when she sent the check. She said because it was under $10, I have to tip to make up the difference. If she's worried about the card reader charge then perhaps they should look into other companies. I overheard her saying this to another customer as well. Tipping is a standard. You don't need to demand one. Rude.

Apparently this a decent Asian cuisine restaurant that I have missed for years. The decor is lovely. The service is good- cannot say great. Waitresses do not know menu well enough to answer questions about many dishes. Plating is above average. One major complaint I have is that often plate I not served at correct temperature. Meet is well cooked but vegetables cool. This makes me question food preparation. Do no let this become an issue please, because you are better than the chain of Asian fast foods out there.

I've been going to this place forever and it has always been good! The chicken lo mein is super yummy. Lots of veggies and juicy chicken. My fav is the Hot and Sour soup! I eat the large all by myself! My mom loves their Shrimp and Lobster sauce. I do have to admit it's pretty dang good as well! The service is always decent and it's always clean. I'm a big stickler about clean restaurants. Check it out I think you'll be happy you did!

Hadn't been in this place in almost 20 years, but was getting tired of our regular Chinese haunts. The decor update is great. It is bright and clean and the menu selection was pretty go also. My husband didn't get the dish that he ordered, but whatever it was that he got was so good that he didn't bother question it. Mine was made just the way I like it. We had good service and I thought the prices were reasonable. We will certainly stop in more often!

Our dinner club went there in Dec. 2013. I was VERY impressed. The service was excellent, friendly, efficient, even packed the food up at the end for you. The food was scrumptious! I loved everything from the eggroll to the soup and the main course of s & s shrimp. The presentation was also exemplary. Beautiful stemmed water goblets and stark white dishes of different sizes and shapes. We will definitely go back and bring guests!

Like some other reviewers have mentioned, Gim Ling underwent a facelife and change of ownership a few years back. The current restaurant has a beautiful, classic interior complete with modern dishware. The waitstaff always looks sharp, and I've gotten efficient service anytime I have gone. However, the food is only "meh." It's alright. Nothing I can say specifically bad about it. But nothing that I haven't forgotten about the moment I step out of the door to head home. I know a lot of people who are fans of this place, and it's clear that their take-out side of the business is booming. I just wish the quality of the food matched the pretty decor.

First of all I'd like to say that I used to eat at Gim Ling way back in the day with my parents back when it was owned by Faun and Ling. She even knew our family by name and gave us freebies at times. The food was great! Cut to year s later, my friends and I decided to go there because we hadn't been there in years and we wanted to see what the new decor was like. Although the decor was brighter and the food was of a wider selection, the food was mediocre in taste. But THAT wasn't or isn't my problem.... My problem stems from what they did to us when we went to pay and leave. My friends and I carried no cash on us at the time because we just didn't have much. In fact we were trying to order the lowest costing thing so we could afford it. We went to the restroom briefly and returned so we could pay the bill. That's when they stopped us and asked us if we liked the food and service. We told them that it was fine and asked them why. She said "well you didn't leave a tip. You know you are supposed to leave a tip. It is required that there is a tip.." and blah blah...This woman who was SLOOOWWWW..... Was DEMANDING US to leave a TIP!!! We nearly got into a heated argument because I tried to explain to her that other then the credit card I had NO money for a tip!! I couldn't even afford to do it off the card. Well what happens? She ends up charging us on the bill for a tip anyways and we end up paying it without realizing it! I'm sorry, but a tip is NOT a requirement especially if you are poor and have NO money except for the ability to pay for your food. NOT to mention it's an option left open for a GOOD WAITRESS OR WAITER IF they do a GOOD job! After reading the other reviews I'm almost willing to bet at they force a $5 minimum so they are able to charge for a tip. BEWARE when eating here. I will never return to such a pot hole. WANT GOOD CHINESE? Go to CHINA MOON!!

My favorite Chinese food restaurant. I eat here twice a week. I love the extensive menu that features items outside of the typical Chinese food items (chow Mein, abc, etc) the crab rangoons, General Tao chicken, are so good, and my favorite dish is the chicken chow my fun. (Yes, it's real!) so so yummy. But when I just want a bowl of egg drop soup or won ton it's a hit as well.

I suggested to my family we have dinner here based on a recent review by Metrotimes food writer Jane Slaughter. She said there was generally a long line at take-out on Saturday nights. We were there around 7pm and maybe 10 people total all the while we were there. First, the decor was very nicely done, well-lit, nicely appointed. Now for the food. I ordered an off menu item, beef w/oyster sauce, which the server said could be done. It was eminently forgettable, did not have much oyster sauce at all, I've had much better elsewhere. On the upside the meat was very tender and tasty. I always wondered what cut they use because I'd like to get some to make at home. As an aside, one night after a long night of casino gambling in Reno I went to a Chinese restaurant nearby and ordered arf and beester. OK, that was after several Chivas that the casino kindly served gratis. Good old days... Anyway, the eggroll was similarly forgettable with a sweet sour sauce that was far too vinegar-y for my taste. For dessert the green tea ice cream was not to my liking either. My daughter had chicken chow mein with the skinny noodles. She was ok with it and took the remainder home for tomorrow. I tried it and it too, was bland. My wife ordered Szechuan chicken. We both had the same opinion that bland was a dominant theme here. I will try it again at lunch sometime because finding a good Chinese restaurant has been an extreme challenge in my 20 years in Michigan. Anybody have any suggestions? Another up note is the mens room - it was very clean, nice designer sink and fixtures. Soap and paper towels were there. I don't know when JS was there and I would like for her to have mentioned what dish she had to print such a positive review.

Our waiter Tim was cool. He seemed shocked when my compatriot ordered her Vegetable Delight spicy, indeed it was spicy, but not too hot. The Tofu was softer than we like, but was still good. Egg drop soup was thick and delicious. Wonton soup broth was tasty it didn't have that foul mop water flavor like many Chinese buffets and takeout. The fried soup crispies were light and fresh. Probably still heart cloggers, but mmm good. Soup was served with HEAVY BREAD ROLLS; nearly extinct in area chinese restaurants, these soft heavy rolls are goooood; sop some soup or just take a bite mmm. Egg rolls were solid. Better than average, and lacked the swamp water flavor of lesser rivals. I had a piece of broccoli for every piece of chicken in my General Tso's, but even beyond that good news, the sauce was the best General sauce I've had in some time. I found it actually had some heat when ordered hot and wasn't sickeningly sweet. Presentation was quite nice, better than you'd expect in a strip mall. I took pictures. Staff seemed to work together well. BATHROOMS WERE IMMACULATE. I'll go back I definitely want to try the Hot and Sour soup, Coconut Shrimp and Hawaiian Spring Rolls.

If I'm going to dine on the Eastside, my first choice is Gim Ling. Gim Ling is Asian with a modern twist. The decor is modern and sleek, not what you would expect of a Chinese restaurant located in a shopping plaza. You are not going to find the traditional red walls and fake leather seats here. The tables and booths a very comfortable. And the men's room has to be one of the cleanest and nicest around -- if you care about that kinda thing, it's good to know! The food is superb. Gim Ling offers traditional items, such as Sweet and Sour Chicken, and unique items like Mango Chicken. You are able to order dinner as a combination plate, which includes a soup, egg-roll, entree, and dessert - I recommend the peppermint ice cream. I do not have a favorite yet, but I'm leaning towards the Curry Chicken. In addition, to the excellent food, the service is top notch. You order is taken promptly and you are attended to throughout your meal. Two thumbs up for Gim Ling. And thanks to Tony B., for sharing this place with me!

Very good Chinese. I tried it for the first time a few months ago and got the chicken and broccoli combo with wanton soup and I loved it. I'm not sure why there are so many negative reviews here. The two times I've been back since were also great.

Gim's is not your typical Chinese joint. Thet have all the regular food but in the words of Emeril it's kicked up a notch. Remodeled about 2 yers ago it's a nice open and bright dining room. The hot-sour soup is not to be missed. Not just a vinagery version but one with some real heat. If you have a cold, it will get rid of it. Some of the best shrimp fried rice I've had, with actual whole med. size shrimp in the rice. The only disappointment is the egg roll. It seems no one can do a good egg roll anymore.

I remember my family ordering Gim Ling 20 years ago...maybe longer. I don't think I have ever had a bad meal. When we ordered some carryout last week the stuff was hot, crispy egg rolls, which is a must, and the won ton soup was SPOT ON. I know this is a new owner...but the food is still good. There is a lot of options in the area for Chinese food, I try and make my way back to these guys when I can, I wish they were Wok To You ready, that would be fantastic!

Well I've mentioned it in a few of my Chinese posts. So I figured I'd do my review of the place... About 7 years ago the original owners left Gim Ling. The owners sister opened her own place in Hazel Park called Red House. The took the same family recipes. Amazing... The new Gim Ling... Not so much. While it is MUCH brighter, and a much nicer place in general to eat. The food doesn't cut it. The prices are higher (like $9 for Almond Chicken?!), and the food is as good as a delivery or carry out only joint (minus red house). breading is the same too thick, undercooked crap... Bla bla... I hate even writing reviews. I suppose if this is the type of chinese you like, and you wanna spend more that the average crappy chinese joint. By all means... Enjoy Please... if you know of a good chinese place. Send me a message and let me know.

I would like to start by saying I USED TO like their greasy, slightly decent chinese food. I go there because my vet's office is nearby and having 3 dogs and a cat i find myself there often. Service seemed friendly enough until last week. i would give this place NO STARS if i could. THIS IS A LONG STORY BUT BEAR WITH ME This was my 3rd visit there and like before I wanted to pay on my credit card. Only this time they asked me for my ID. i'm going to be honest and say i got shitfaced in chicago and left in a bar there 3-4 nights prior. when i failed to produce the manager came out and said she needed my ID. i told her i didn't what had happen to it and she asked "so your driving around with no license?" not that this was any of her business but no. My dog was having surgery so i came to get him. "theres no one you can call to have them bring you money...we need to get our money" I told her that i live and work in Detroit, that my husband and i actually own a restaurant downtown (i'm not gonna take this time to plug my place because i'm not here for that) and that i've never asked my customers for ID nor have i been asked here for an ID before. she goes on about how that's their policy and they bank requires it (i'm calling bullshit again cuz i have 2 different business accounts and neither require that) She start to get loud, so I get loud back. then she say shes gonna call the cops. I say "look, you can hold on to my phone, it's an iPhone 4...it's pretty expensive. i'll just go to the ATM, since i know my PIN, and get the money..." "yeah my daughter has an iPhone too....so what" and she walks away. At this point i'm fucking livid. OVER 23 dollars??!?!? i call my husband, who is at our restaurant and tell him whats going on. i'm loud cuz i'm pissed and i'm somewhat embarrassed. i explain the situation and as i walk outside to talk they tell me.... "ma'am can you please reamain at your table?" i said my car keys are on the table and that i wasnt going anywhere when i come back in a young kid around the age of 15 walks up with 20 bucks and asks me how much my bill was and that his dad would like to pay. i say no at first but then accept the offer tell his father the same deal. i would leave my phone and my keys with him, pay the bill, get my card (which they've held onto) and pay him right back. he refuses saying he just wants to do something nice in hopes i would return the favor, a sentiment i live by, but i insist. when i go to pay the bill they say "we thought you didnt have any money" i explain and they tell me ..... ARE YOU READY? THEY HAVE CALLED THE FUCKING COPS ON ME! not only that but they have TAKEN MY CAR KEYS OFF THE TABLE AND ARE HOLDING THOSE TILL THEY GET THERE. WOW...... JUST WOW. i have had fights break out at my bar. lots more thing have happened at my place IN DETROIT than this and i have RARELY called the cops. the cops shows up and i believe his is clearly more annoyed by this situation than i am. he asks me a few questions about myself, goes out to his car and even talk about my checkered past (hey i was young once) i ask him if i can just go to the ATM and pull the money out to pay them. He goes inside and tells them i'm going to the ATM and they say "oh we have to go get the manager to ask her" to which he responds "oh, i'm not asking you. i'm telling you" he is kind enough to drive me to the ATM which is in THE SAME PARKING LOT...watches me enter my PIN, because i want to prove to him its mine. drives me back and i pay them. so would i go back to this place? i think it's safe to say i would rather eat 3 day old McDonalds than even recommend this place. my vet nor their staff will be returning, and if i knew anyone else out in that area, rest assured they wouldn't be going there either.

I travel a lot so I have some excellent restaurants to compare Gim Ling's against. We've eaten here a few times and I can see marked improvements in the food over the last six months. The presentation and wait staff are excellent. I ordered the won ton soup and chicken with broccoli. The soup was delicious though sparse on the won tons. The chicken and broccoli was very fresh tasting and flavorful. My honey ordered the orange chicken. The loveliest presentation of orange chicken I've ever seen and quite delicious. It, too, was very fresh tasting. He ordered the egg drop soup and thought it was okay. The egg rolls were only okay, but I can't find good egg rolls anywhere lately. These were better than most. We'll be visiting more often now.

Without a question the best Chinese dining experience that I've had in a very long time, not to mention in Michigan! I hear there is a new owner so you may want to disregard the older reviews. The place is immaculate and the interior design simple, beautiful and bright. I also enjoyed the choice of acoustic piano music. Our service was perfect. Presentation is elegant and and the dishware unusually beautiful. I can only comment on two dishes...Steak Kow and the Gim Ling Special. Crisp, colorful vegetables accompanied by perfectly prepared chicken, shrimp and beef. The balance of vegetables, sauce and proteins was right on. The best crab rangoons EVER. Wonderful egg drop soup as well as hot and sour soup. We will go back many times! If you are used to cheap, greasy, msg ridden, sodium filled, overcooked Chinese food than I would look elsewhere. The only downside??? I had seconds!!! Oh, and I would love to see this place add Mo Shu Chicken to the menu. Bon Appetit!

A beautiful interior, it's a lovely restaurant. The pot stickers are AMAZING. And, although not a connoisseur of Chinese food, I've never had anything I didn't like. It's certainly on par or better than any of the other Chinese restaurants in the area. The service is good and they even let you choose between a fortune cookie or an almond cookie at the end! This is definitely my go-to for some good Chinese.

This place has come a long way! I remember my parents getting take out when I was younger because the inside of the restaurant looked like a third world country. I just recently eat here again and the inside was not recognizable at all! Fantastic Remodel! The food was actually pretty impressive too for a quick local Asian restaurant. The wait staff was also awesome! reminded me of Hong Kong. I will definitely be going back to this place to eat!

Great food, lovely decor, and friendly waitress. I had the wonton soup, eggroll, and mango chicken. Everything was fresh and flavorful.

The best Chinese food we've ever eaten....period. We tried it after a write up on them in Detroit's Hour magazine....you know, the magazine that featujres some of metro Detroit's finest places to eat. Living in Sterling Heights, we no longer can stomach any of the places around here. When we want Chinese food we make the drive to St Clair Shores. Comments like "greasy"? BS and pure sour grapes.. Complaints of expensive? Well, when you're using quality, fresh ingredients like beef "tenderloin" it's going cost more. If you want a gallon of inedible chop suey with msg gravy for $5.00 go elsewhere. Complaints of poor service? Get real. If you're a cheapskate and don't want to leave a tip don't try and blame the service. The service has always been excellent and from the constant take out line at the front door it appeared to me that they had a lot of happy customers that love the food. We've always been treated graciously by every one and have never witnessed any dissatisfied customers on our average of 3 visits a month. Their appetizers (pot stickers/crab rangoon) are superb. Their lettuce wraps make PF Chang's look like amateurs. Their noodle dishes are fantastic. Mango Chicken is delicious. The beef is top "melt in your mouth" tenderloin quality. Never tried any of their seafood. The only thing on the menu we didn't care for was their rib appetizer but hey, it's not a rib joint. Ice cream for dessert (included) just makes it even more enjoyable. So despite the sour grapes some have posted, try Gim Ling's if you want real quality, fresh, new fusion Asian cooking and decide for your self. Oh yeah and there is a sharing price...big deal!!! The east side finally has a Chinese place equal or better to some of the more sophisticated Chinese places of Oakland County and I hope they're there a long time. As a matter of fact we're headed there right now for our New Years Day dinner.

Two of us eating their food have gotten migraines the next day both times we've eaten there. Such a shame because its easily the best Chinese food in the area. If you don't get migraines, enjoy!

I downloaded this app and made an account just to review this restaurant. The inside of the place is absolutely beautiful and looks very inviting. The beginning of the meal was nice except for the owner, screaming at a customer that was on the phone for a take out saying that if they opened the container and it was dry that they don't get a refund. Next, the waiter came out and told my sister that they didn't have the sauce to the almond boneless chicken and that they would be making it but she should just eat the egg foo young gravy instead. Next he turned to me to tell me that they made my meal a lo mein instead of a chow mein and continued to ask me if I rather have Lo mein. No sorry I want what I ordered. So he went in the back to let them know to make another one. Twenty, twenty five minutes go by and My families done eating still no food. So i approach the manager to let her know that they messed up my order it had been a long time and the food still wasn't out yet. She used the excuse that the food was made fresh. I continued to let her know that I worked at a Chinese restaurant myself that makes the food fresh and no dish there takes this long and then she started to yell at me. As a owner/manager of an establishment, she would be ashamed of the idea of speaking to a customer like that over an issue that was a creation of her and her wait staff. She then went behind this wall where I could clearly see her gossiping about me to the other waitress whom continued to stare at me. The people that run Gim Ling should be ashamed of themselves. I love the food but the owner might be too much for me to handle going back.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
